Mechanical processing

Powders often contains some contaminated particles and there are several methods available to remove unwanted particles from these powders. Two of these methods exploits variance in conductivity or magnetism.

Magnetic separation can be used to remove magnetic particles from a non-magnetic material. Removal of iron particles from a mineral is a good example of magnetic separation.

Electrostatic separation is used to separate conductive particles from non-conductive particles. The separation of metal particles from mineral particles or the separation of plastic from metal are examples of electrostatic separation.

Available equipment

  • Pilot equipment for electrostatic separation of dry powders (typical range 100-600µm)
  • Pilot scale and industrial scale equipment for magnetic separation of dry powders (typical 100-600µm)

In addition to testing Future Materials could assist in the design of new processes, troubleshooting or optimizing customers existing equipment.
