Technology, competence & equipment

Future Materials provides infrastructure, equipment and competence on materials, powders and additive manufacturing either separately or combined at your disposal.

Future Materials possesses infrastructure, equipment and expertise in both materials science and engineering, powders and additive manufacturing, as well as their combinations.

With us you have the opportunity to do everything from tests, measurements and characterization in the lab, both small and large tests in existing equipment from lab scale and up to full scale pilot in an industrial environment. Below you will find an overview of available equipment in our test facilities:

Future Materials has partners nationally and internationally with equipment we can draw on when needed to complement our equipment park.

The center has four industrial halls at the customer's disposal complete with the necessary infrastructure such as electric power, hydraulics, compressed air, cranes and more. In the test halls we house relevant equipment ranging from analysis laboratories, mechanical testing, pyrometallurgical melting furnaces, powder production and to 3D printers, other processing equipment and testing of finished products.

Battery technology

The battery lab’s overarching priority is to study how Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries with various chemical compositions behave under different conditions. A Li-ion battery consists of two electrodes, an anode and a cathode, an electrolyte and a separator separating the electrodes from each other. Li-ion batteries are a rechargeable type of battery where Li-ions move from the negative electrode (the anode) towards the positive electrode (the cathode) when discharging and the opposite direction during charging. The Li-ions move in an electrolyte where the main component is a Li-rich salt.

Additive manufacturing

Future Materials has a wide range of 3D-printers for plastic, nylon, composites and metals. We also have partners with complementary equipment nationally and internationally.

Recycling and circular economy

Today, 90.7% of the world's resources are used only once before it becomes waste. To ensure material access to future product production, we rely on recycled material to a much greater extent than today.

Plastic and Composite

Our partner Norner is a global market leader in plastic and composite materials.

Materials

Future Materials has through our partners Elkem, ReSiTec and UiA extensive expertise in minerals and metals, and a broad equipment portfolio from laboratory and pilot scale to industrial scale.

Powder metallurgy

In Future Materials we have long experience with powder processing and handling. In recent years we have also built up a strong competence in powder for Additive Manufacturing (AM), including HSE competence for powder treatment. Last year we installed Norway´s only plasma machine for powder production (spheroidization and nanophysing).
